Tarrant's Cafe, Richmond, VA.

"In 1883, The storefront at One West Broad Street became a drugstore owned by Harrison and Pierce. In 1905, it was taken over by William G. Tarrant, who started Tarrant Drug Company. This corner drug store sold glasses and all kinds of medicinal remedies. Physicians could prescribe and purchase remedies on site. After Tarrant's death in 1961, the drug store was taken over by his son Bill until 1987.  Today, Tarrant's Cafe is bringing upscale but affordable neighborhood service to Richmond's community." 1. This photo came as a shock to me. Obviously as of this writing the post has been sitting here for 9 years - but here's the thing: when Tarrant's was still a drug store, circa 1989, I designed and hand painted the script logo name signage on the window glass! At the time, of course it never occurred to me 1) Tarrant's Drugs would close, 2) A lovely restaurant would take it's place, and 3) that somebody would restore my window signs of 35 years ago. Fate can be funny! Ted Haigh - former owner and head sign painter for Atomic Signs!
